channel. >> on tonight's episode, we're getting trashed. with a guy who made it his life's work to clean up america's waterways. >> we really have made change. >> and i'll create a somewhat imperson innocent arm form with a wisconsin couple who make cold, hard cash out of cold, hard ice. >> be in the moment it. will pass. >> and then i get to play with fire. working with a father and son team who prove that the art of blacksmithing is alive and well. and painful. sometimes you hear about a person who makes you feel good about humanity but bad about yourself. chad pregracke is one of those people. i heard about chad and his one-man crusade to clean up america's rivers and i felt

guilty ever since. finally it is my chance to join chad and see exactly how his nonprofit living lands and waters is effecting change one land of garbage at a time. >> we get our daily drinking water out tv and wildlife can't survive without it and transports our goods. it is so important in so many ways. >> yeah. >> chad has been cleaning up rivers since he was a kid but he upped his game when he got this built, a 150 foot long barge that serves as a home, a office and a floating dumpster. >> all right. so i'll show you around a little bit. >> what is this? >> pickles man. we found them out there yesterday. >> why are they out here where somebody could eat them? >> i don't know. it is a good question. >> so from here down the superstretcher, it is built out of an old strip club. >> your barge is a recycled

strip club? >> besides the ghost of exotic dancers, this solar-powered recycled strip club sports seven bedrooms, male and female bathrooms, two offices, a classroom and a full kitchen. plus, other things. >> somebody started putting bells up there. it freaks some people out. >> sure it doesn't. >> i wondered what happened to mr. potato head. >> there he is. >> that's too bad. >> but chad is not doing it alone. he has a full-time staff who eat, sleep and live on the barge. for weeks at a time. let's see if they have anything bad to say about the guy. >> he is very enthusiastic. he's a go-g -- go getter. he's enthusiastic. >> he's motivating and makes you want to be better and do better. >> this guy is hilarious too. it makes you fun. >> it makes you want to vomit,

right? and then you hear about what he's accomplished. 831 clean-ups. 21 rivers and 21 states and over 8 million pounds of trash removed by hand. >> so here is a look at some of the crap you've pulled out of the rivers? >> yep. and these are a few years old by now. so a lot. a lot of stuff, man. >> 950 retrij raters. 261 washing machines, gas tanks. mannequin heads and hands. that has to freak you out when you pull up a mannequin. >> yeah. >> for a second you are like is it -- >> no, i've seen a hand and thought -- well we have found real -- real pieces. >> that would be -- and this is really beautiful. >> that is actually -- that is a perimeter and that is 12 foot of water and that is a backed channel so choked up, when you pull up, the dogs think it is

know who i am. don't know how it started. i group up on the mississippi river. spent time on the river. fishing, playing, swixing. and when i was 15, i got into commercial slel diving with my brother and i did that and worked 150 mile stretch of the river and did some commercial fishing and working onto -- on towboats and that is when i got the idea. i got one sponsor from the home town and here we are 17 years later and so much has happened and right now we've made a big difference since we've started. so let's kick some -- >> cool. >> let's do it. i've decided to join him on the ohio river to save the river, slow things down and get if the way. >> right up there is a bee's nest right, so we want to work that way. bring everything right back to this, right here. this little tree, we're going to form a pile right here. sound good? >> it doesn't take long to learn there is a technique to your basic river clean-up and one of the perpetual challenges are plastic barrels full of sand. >> so basically, we'll have to dig this out. >> all right. >> just loosen it up now and just grab it. >> that is totally full of sand. >> isn't it, though? sometimes it is not easy. >> see, always an optimistic. chad is a barrel half full kind of guy. >> this is one. one little victory at a kind. people think don't you get discouraged? not really. because if we didn't come out

said you should check out the guys at art below zero. so we did. it is the husband and wife team of jeanne and max, and their's is a song of meyer and ice being sung around the world. they are internationally famous ice sculpturer -- sculptors and i'm told their pieces are nothing short of masterpieces. >> i think we're here. we're definitely here. hey, mike. >> how is it going? >> hi, mike. >> how are you doing, buddy? >> max. >> jeanne. >> where am i? >> we are at art below zero. >> we're not a typical ice sculpting company. >> what is a typical ice sculpting company. >> it is a company that makes a

face, an eagle. >> we like when people come to us and say we wanted to serve seafood and i want a monogram and a picture and an illusion and i want to be able to be moved in the middle of the party and 900 pounds, so that is what we do. >> is that what you are doing now? >> we are creating this seafood station for a major hotel. the event starts at 4:00 this afternoon so we have to be out of here by 1:30 in the afternoon. >> oh, okay. so what can i do to slow you down? >> before we actually started working on the piece, let's do a practice piece. >> great. >> let's get him in some proper gear. >> a good sculptor needs the right gear, they need the right medium. in this case, that medium is an ice so clear they call it gem-like and it is entirely home grown. >> we are ice harvesters.

we harvest ice. first you purify the water and then that kind of motion makes the particles of water to use really close together and that is when the ice is clear. when they are not that close together they are bubbles and that means white ice. >> we clear off the top of it and then we get our perfect block of ice ready to begin. >> how do you move it? tongs? >> we use these. they are heavy. and we know what your experience is? >> made in burling, illinois. >> don't believe everything you see. >> or touch. >> or smell. >> or taste, or lick, right? >> you're a curious person. >> we are here at art below zero, it is, well, state-of-the-art. >> with hundreds of tools to get this done. like this computerized numerical

machine. cnc for short, used to carve items. >> we'll get a nice silhouette of the sculpture and finish it in here. >> how long does it take for that thing to do what it is doing? >> it takes about three minutes. >> did he get you into this or did you get him into this? >> no. we came at different times. he started in venezuela and i started in appleton, wisconsin. >> we are proud to use all kind of technology. we use whatever is available for us. >> the best job, with the best tool, at the right time, for the right client. and they better be able to fork over some doe. >> they haven't cheap. our average ticket is $507. >> so your average ice sculpture? >> your sanch below zero -- your average below zero ice
